Sikasso: potato, ginger and orchards
Sikasso is a major southern agricultural basin. Potato farming has recognized commercial importance, while quality seed, staggered planting, storage and phased marketing remain critical. Green ginger also offers opportunities when sorting, washing, packing and freshness are controlled.
Mango from Sikasso to Bamako
Mango orchards are important in southern Mali, especially around Sikasso. Bamako and its peri-urban area are major aggregation, distribution, processing and buyer-access hubs. ZARI listings should state variety, volume, harvest window, packaging and delivery terms.
Sesame: list verifiable lots
Sesame appears in Mali’s national agricultural survey. Producers from Sikasso, Koutiala, Bougouni, Ségou, Koulikoro, Kayes and other areas can list real volume, colour, impurities, moisture, warehouse location and crop year.
Cotton belt and rotation crops
The cotton-based system covers southern Mali, including Sikasso, Koutiala, Bougouni and parts of Koulikoro, Ségou and Kita. Rotations include maize, millet, sorghum, groundnut and cowpea. ZARI also supports input, equipment and advisory requests.
Banana and horticulture
Bananas are grown in wetter southern areas and irrigated gardens. Healthy planting material, wind protection, water and potassium management, disease scouting and gentle handling shape market quality.
Poultry and fish farming
Poultry includes broilers, layers and small flocks around Bamako and across regional towns. Pond and cage aquaculture requires attention to water quality, feed, density and health. ZARI links farmers with suppliers, technicians and buyers.
